This shocking book tells the story of a boy wandering alone in different regions of Europe in WW2. Even though the book is not a real story, as the author wrote on the 'Afterward', 'reality is often scarier than fiction'. To realize that the boy didn't even know why people were treating him like that (he doesn't even know what Jews or gypsies are) is truly a clear demonstration of how easy it is to humans lose their 'humanity'.
