Para fazer as pazes com a brevidade da vida

Em uma entrevista, o autor Ocean Vuong disse que visita o cemitério próximo de sua casa todos os dias para meditar. Não é meu costume, mas hoje fui para me despedir de um ente querido. Enquanto estava lá me lembrei deste livro.

A narrativa é uma carta, por vezes desconexa e digressiva, porém extremamente poética e comovente de Little Dog para sua mãe que não sabe ler. Com elementos de saga familiar e romance de formação, acompanhamos o passado da família no Vietnã, os horrores da guerra e da ocupação americana, a vida dura como imigrantes nos Estados Unidos e o crescimento de um menino asiático gay em um país extremamente hostil.

Aviso que é uma leitura de dilacerar o coração e a alma. Agora entendo o que alguém quer dizer quando qualifica um livro como "arrebatador". Demorei muito a escrever essa resenha pela dificuldade de entender, não só o livro, mas me entender. Esse livro despertou sentimentos que ainda não sei nomear. Embora tenha finalizado há um bom tempo, essa obra continua me "assombrando" (no melhor sentido da palavra) e me confortando.

A morte é um tema essencial aqui, mas não chega a roubar os holofotes. Ao tratar de modo tão delicado sobre a efemeridade da vida, Ocean Vuong conseguiu transmitir a beleza da existência. Já posso declarar que este foi o meu livro preferido do ano e, sem dúvida, o mais belo.
