Cruel, mas extremamente necessário para não deixar a memória desses fatos horríveis morrerem. Antes de Pachinko, não fazia ideia de que tinha havido uma colonização da Coreia pelo Japão; e antes de The White Chrysanthemum não fazia ideia do que eram as haenyeo e as "mulheres conforto".
O Japão passa ao Ocidente uma imagem de país de glórias, honra, história, e seu passado de atrocidades fica bem escondido.
