Em 2009, foi realizada uma competição chamada Jane Austen Short Story Competição, para celebrar os 200 anos da chegada de Jane Austen para Chawton. Os escritores deveriam escrever pequenas histórias tendo como tema a autora, suas obras, sua casa em Chawton ou a Chawton House Library. O resultado é este livro, com 20 histórias escritas por mulheres. De variadas idades, atuando em diferentes profissões, algumas americanas outras britânicas, todas tem em comum a paixão por Jane Austen e suas obras.

Li esse livro por pura curiosidade. Há bastante tempo vejo indicações, leio resenhas, mas só agora resolvi parar para lê-lo. As histórias são bem legais, meu conto favorito foi o penúltimo, “We need to talk about Mr. Collins”, de Mary Howell. No final, o leitor também é apresentado a breves biografias das autoras que contribuíram para o livro. De forma geral, gostei bastante. É muito bom ver o quanto Jane Austen pode ser inspiradora. Infelizmente, não tem nada a ver com dançando com Mr. Darcy, mas ainda assim vale como puro entretenimento.
