The Good Earth is a novel by Pearl S. Buck published in 1931 and awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel in 1932. The best selling novel in the United States in both 1931 and 1932, it was an influential factor in Buck winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1938. It is the first book in a trilogy that includes Sons (1932) and A House Divided (1935).

Que livro sensacional. Eu não sei explicar como essa história me toca. Muito mais do que ser um representação da China e de costumes, pra mim é uma história sobre ser humano. O luto, a alegria, desejo, vergonha… só Deus sabe como eu chorei no último capítulo. Pra mim só podia ter cem páginas a menos. Talvez por eu ter lido em inglês a leitura tenha sido mais maçante, mas valeu muito a pena. Me pego pensando na O-Lan sempre e na filha mais velha sempre.
