WOOL went from a self-published short story to a blockbuster New York Times bestseller in 2012 (New York Times, October 2012). The work has been translated into over 40 languages, and was picked up by Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox for a feature film adaptation.

Note from the author: This Omnibus Edition collects the five Wool books into a single volume. It is for those who arrived late to the party and who wish to save a dollar or two while picking up the same stories in a single package.

The first Wool story was released as a standalone short in July of 2011. Due to reviewer demand, the rest of the story was released over the next six months. My thanks go out to those reviewers who clamored for more. Without you, none of this would exist. Your demand created this as much as I did.

Silo: Wool

Sempre me surpreendo com a criatividade dos escritores na construção de mundos pós apocalípticos. Conheci “Silo” através da série da Apple TV, que com seus episódios longos e envolventes, despertou minha curiosidade sobre a obra original. Decidi então mergulhar no livro, que é muito mais profundo e distópico do que a série revela. A versão em inglês que li é composta por quatro volumes, totalizando 1716 páginas.
O primeiro volume, "Wool", é apenas parcialmente abordado pela série. A narrativa de Howey é tão cativante que você nem percebe o tamanho do livro. A história se passa em um gigantesco silo subterrâneo onde os sobreviventes de um desastre que tornou o exterior inabitável vivem. A discussão sobre o tabu de falar sobre o exterior e a pena de morte para os infratores adiciona profundidade ao enredo. O conflito central é entre uma jovem determinada a desvendar os
segredos do silo e um oficial que prefere manter o status quo, levantando questões complexas sobre segurança e verdade.
O livro começa com um tom sombrio e quase vintage, mas evolui para explorar política e estrutura de classes, adicionando ação ao longo da trama. A protagonista, Juliette, só assume o papel principal a partir da terceira parte, mas rapidamente se torna o coração da história, com suas qualidades de racionalidade e coragem.
O mundo do silo é fascinante, com suas divisões de classe e a imagem do interminável espiral de escadas. A manipulação e controle da população são explorados de forma interessante, e o livro mantém uma pegada clássica de ficção científica. Apesar de achar a aceitação rápida da manipulação e a falta de episódios de agorafobia um pouco forçadas, essas questões são superadas pela narrativa envolvente. O livro é extremamente sofisticado em suas passagens éticas e filosóficas. E a melhor parte é que, ao chegar ao final, você tem a satisfação de saber que há um segundo volume para continuar a jornada.
