So, yet another review of a book that was scooped up by Hollywood, this was recently turned into a TV drama. While this book was not a bad read by any means, the Americanized version of the show is doing a much better job of keeping me entertained than the book ever did. The book has the same premise as the show: the whole population of the world blacks out for a small period of time and sees the future. This, of course, causes world catastrophe. This is one of the glaring differences between the book and show: the amount of time that passes in the blackout. In the book, twenty plus years pass in the future visions. In the show, only 6 months pass. Of course, the television show depends on immediate results and waiting 20 years for a payoff is not going to be great ratings wise. However, I find the idea of a more immediate future more intriguing.
