"You belonged with me.” - Shadow and Bone - Leigh Bardugo
I must admit that like a lot of people I just acknowledge the existence of the Grishaverse after the Netflix series Shadow and Bone was released. Like a good bookworm, every time I watch something I look for a mention telling where the idea for the production came from to see if it came from a book, so as soon as I knew that the series have been inspired by the books of Leigh Bardugo I start longing for reading the books because if the series was so good as it were the books for sure would be even better, and I was totally right in my assumption.
The protagonist, Alina it’s a simple girl that has a big crush on her best friend Mal (who is unaware of her feelings). They live in Ravka, a nation in constant war, so they only try to survive, day after day. Everything changes when it is discovered that Alina is actually a Grisha with the power to summon sunlight.
The Grisha are people born with special powers, they are able to manipulate matter and use the Small Science to do so. They are classified into three orders: Corporalki, Etherealki, and Materialki, each order has its own designations.
In this magic world also exists the Shadow Fold that is something almost alive itself, into its interior everything is darkness and the inhabitants are the volcra, horrible creatures, that devours everyone who dares to enter the Fold.
I liked the characters and loved the writing of the author, it’s a fluid reading. Shadow and Bones have an intriguing plot, so it’s perfect for lovers of fiction like me.
