this all surprised me ?
''i´m not tate when i'm close to miles. i'm a liquid, and liquids don't know how to be firm and defend themselves. liquids flow. and that's all i want to do with miles.'' - ugly love by colleen hoover
this book was the first i read by colleen hoover and i started it with a lot of afraid bc is the most criticized book of her. but i have to admit, he surprised me.
the first: tate. this girl is so... funny? and very interesting bc she represents a classic example of emotional depending and all things we do for it. in contrast, she easily gets carried away by her desire for miles, even if it costs her a lot of crying and displeasure with herself for deciding to give their ''relantionship'' one more chance.
miles: ok. im a little suspect to talk about this men bc, ironically, he represents EVERYTHING that defines a book boyfriend. but, lets go. i decided to split it in two parts:
1) the miles's past: it was one of the most memorable parts of the book for me, honestly. the whole development around miles and rachel really got me VERY involved in the story, especially after she finds she's pregnant. and that's the point. I didnt EXPECT FOR SUCH PAIN. colleen hoover, you didnt have that right. the entire description of the accident and the bereavement of miles, as well as the traumas it caused him, was perfectly put. i have nothing to complain about.
2) the mile's present: the fact he used these traumas as a barrirer between him and a possible relationship seemed justifiable to me (?), except when he acted with tate as if they were both in a serious relationship (this was unaccetable to me) and when he literally used she as an escape valve. including the most shocking moment where we have the dreaded phrase ''my god, rachel''. i cried.
colleen hoover knew how to develop past-trauma issues perfectly well, in addition to giving miles what he needed most: forgiving himself. without necessarily involving tate in it. i didnt expect this, but in addition to give five stars, i also added ugly love to my top books of 2022!
