Belisiario 11/04/2020A Teensy Cliche RomanceA over the top stereotypical story. I could end the review on that note but I will point out a few aspects that will illustrate how humdrum the book actually is.
The story line basically follows the footsteps of Penny, an awkward girl doing embarrassing things in front of everyone (time and time again) it gets to a point that you have to suck it up really hard in order to move on. It has - an obvious - group of brainless popular people, mean girl being mean just for the sake of it, hot guy which obviously Penny has a crush on (that HAD to be included, am I right?!) and displaying how shallow he is and so on. I mean, it has the impeccable plot for the perfect clichê imaginable.
On top of that, we are carried into the mishaps of the awkward girl meeting another hot, cordial guy; awkward girl feels complete emotionally for the first time after 2 minutes of conversation with him, awkward girl falls in love; the perfect couple falls apart because, well, they’re like, immature af; hot, nice guy goes in pursue of his soul mate with a wonderful gesture and wins her heart back and so on and so on.
On a positive note though, it deals with anxiety and a minor level of depression which may be helpful for some people going through it. Zoella (the author) probably wanted to show how inevitable it is to face those situations and do not let your head down. The way she chose to portrait though just wind up with a trivial adolescence endeavor in pursue of acceptance among its peers.
