Qualquer pessoa que convive comigo sabe o quão obcecada eu sou por welcome to night vale, e esse livro é só mais uma comprovação do quanto eu amo esse universo.

Esse livro é genial! Apesar de sentir falta de mensagens menos sutis, eu adorei passar um tempo na minha velha conhecida cidadezinha no meio do deserto onde o sol é quente, a lua é bonita e luzes estranhas passam por nossas cabeças enquanto todos fingimos dormir. Bizarrices na dose certa, críticas certeiras e questionamentos extremamente relacionáveis. Jeff Cranor e Joseph Fink eu devo minha vida a vocês!!

E é aquilo né, apesar de o livro poder ser lido de forma independente, se você não conhece o podcast recomendo fortemente dar uma chance! É uma das minhas coisas favoritas no universo!

My feelings on the book are the same I have on the podcast: I love it.
The book has the same feel, the same atmosphere, the same humor, but since it's not stuck on the Community Radio format of the podcast it can expand on them even more.

So, the choice of changing the main characters to Jackie and Diane was more than right, because we always see how Cecil and even Carlos deal with Night Vale's weirdness, but never had the chance to see other character's point of view.

I did miss listening to it, though, I wish I could have bought the audiobook because sometimes the descriptions can get a bit boring to /read/ but would be amazing to /listen/ to.

I'm... so disappointed. WTNV is my favorite podcast of all time, and to said I had high expectations for this book is an understatement. I bought the hardcover (which is very pretty, by the way) and started gushing out about it to everyone when I was in the first few pages.

Sadly, it's just... Not that good? The characters walk almost aimlessly back and forth for a big part of the book, and it took a long time for anything to actually happen. The plot is stitched together at best, with not much structure to it. It came to a point where I was just... Not enjoying reading. The whole book feels pointless in a way, and everything really just happens in, what, the last thirty pages or so?

I do like the weird atmosphere and general eerie alien vibe that is so familiar in Night Vale. The characters... I'm not sure. They had potential to develop, but it got lost in the mess that was the plot. My favorite part were the radio bits put in the middle. I also listened to the first chapter in audio and it was amazing, so I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I have listened it as an audiobook, but oh well.

This is a three in my heart because of how much I love the podcast, but I have to give it a two because of everything I just said. Well. I still love Cecil and WTNV, so I will just go back to that.

Que livro maluco, e eu amei!
Sabe o que esse livro me lembrou? Tudo em todo lugar ao mesmo tempo. É isso!

Não saberia por em palavras esse plot que é nonsense, sense, terror, horror, ficção, pós-apocaliptico, ainda-apocaliptico, um tanto de coisas que eu ainda preciso rever pensando nessa história que é, por sinal, muito envolvente e no que se propõe, muito bem escrita. Gosto disso de quando se pode ter como horizonte, não somente uma estrutura de "linha de pensamento" no sentido de construção de todo esse universo que é a cidade de Night Vale, mas também, pela linearidade que ainda nos puxa de volta ser centrada na história de duas mulheres: uma filha, e uma mãe.

Enfim, não sei ainda por em palavras o que esse livro me causou, talvez numa releitura, seja mais plausível. Por enquanto, posso dizer que fui marcada, quase que por um novo gênero, cheio de misticismo e mestiçagem, de coisas antigas que tanto gosto, e que é bom rever num formato tão criativo.

Welcome to Night Vale
I love the podcast so I couldn't miss this book.
This mix of irony, cosmic horror and mystery makes Night Vale one of my favorite fictional places to go.
It was a fun reading, I really enjoyed.
