I absolutely loved this series, as I knew I would, from the first pages of the first book. However, it could have been even more than it was.
In the second book, I was getting tired of the love triangle involving Katniss, Peeta and Gale. In this final book, I couldn?t stand it anymore. This isn?t the book?s proposal and I feel it diverted from the real purpose.
There were scenes of war, conflict and discussions that delved into social critique but were very brief (like the destruction of the mountain in District Two), the time that could have been used to make those scenes more compelling, was spent on the arc of ?Who does Katniss love??. Apart from those cases of wasted, brief moments, there could have been more meaningful discussion if not for the pages and pages dedicated to Katniss x Gale x Peeta.
This is not a complaint about the book itself, I?m not saying it?s bad. Again, I LOVED Hunger Games, and it?s perfect for the young adult novel concept, wonderful for starting to develop critical thinking lightly. However, it could have been a bigger hit without the love triangle, with more attention to the ideas of government, dictatorship, reason, and so on, all the dystopia of the book and the critique that follows it.
