When twelve-year-old Florence boards the crowded horse-drawn coach in London, she looks forward to a new life with her great uncle and aunt at Crutchfield Hall, an old manor house in the English countryside. Anything will be better, she thinks, than the grim London orphanage where she has lived since her parents' death. But Florence doesn't expect the ghost of her cousin Sophia, who haunts the cavernous rooms and dimly lit hallways of Crutchfield and concocts a plan to use Florence to help her achieve her murderous goals. Will Florence be able to convince the others in the household of the imminent danger and stop Sophia before it's too late?

Para ler a resenha em Português acesse: http://mylittleworldofbooks.blogspot.com/ Release date: Sept. 6, 2010 Mary Downing Hahn’s book is a very light and cool read. I loved the fact that this is a book for teens in an older time where lots of things and habits were different. Loved how Mary put something of Jane Austen, Emily Bronte and other great authors in it. The young girl called Florence is an intelligent and brave lead character. The book starts with Florence leaving London orphanage where she stayed several years after her parent’s death. She goes live with her Great-Uncle Thomas and Great-Aunt Eugenie at the house Crutchfield Hall. From the first moment her aunt didn’t treat her well lots of mysteries begin. The mystery of her cousin James sickness that is also living there at the house, the mystery of James’s sister death called Sophia, and the strange feelings that Florence is being watched by someone she can’t see. She’s certain that’s Sophia’s ghost, a really bad girl. I think the cover is pure genius. Because is the one portrait Florence find of James and Sophia. Florence cuts herself when the glass shatter and a drop of her blood fall on Sophia’s face. So congrats to the person that did the cover, I love it. The Ghost of Crutchfield Hall is surrounded by awesome mysteries that kids, teens, young adults will love it. Is a fast read and a great read, two things that young readers love the most! 8/10
