K is madly in love with his best friend, Sumire, but her devotion to a writerly life precludes her from any personal commitments. At least, that is, until she meets an older woman to whom she finds herself irresistibly drawn. When Sumire disappears from an island off the coast of Greece, K is solicited to join the search party--and finds himself drawn back into her world and beset by ominous visions. Subtle and haunting, Sputnik Sweetheart is a profound meditation on human longing (AMAZON).

Living in the world of dreams

A novel marked by descriptive writing that immerses the reader in a dreamlike atmosphere. At first glance, the plot may seem disjointed, leaving several narrative threads unresolved. However, a closer look reveals that this ambiguity is intentional, serving to explore themes of solitude and emotional distance. The story subtly suggests that no matter how significant someone is to us, when they vanish—whether physically or emotionally—life inevitably goes on. In the end, living becomes an act of loneliness, a quiet confrontation with an overwhelming sense of emptiness. While the book offers an intriguing reading experience, it ultimately failed to captivate me.
