Kristen takes pride in her job as a pediatrician, and as a doctor, she knows to be careful with what she puts into her body. Late one night she is attacked, while walking to the bus stop. She remembered Joe's warning, about being careful but before Kristen knew what was happening, she was slammed to the ground, and someone was biting her neck. All she really remembers, are the strange feelings she begins to have. When she ends up in the hospital emergency room, a physicians assistant explains what is wrong with Kristen. She also tells Kristen, she only has one course of action to take, she needs to be bitten again. Joe has worked hard at keeping his personal life private, so when Joe opened his door to the donor, he was shocked to find Kristen standing there. Not being able to help himself, or Kristen's pleading, Joe satisfied both their needs. He feels guilty, for not walking her to the bus stop the night she was attacked, not only does he offer himself as her primary, he offers to be her champion, and look for the rogue vampire that bit her. Finding the vampire is her only hope for a cure. Can Joe save her from the nightmare she is living? More important, does she really want to be saved?
