Sándor Károly Henrik Grosschmied de Mára
Húngaro, nasceu em Kassa (hoje Kosice, na Eslováquia), em 1900. Poeta, dramaturgo, correspondente em Paris do Frankfurt Zeitung na época da República de Weimar, é autor de 46 livros, na maioria romances, que tiveram enorme sucesso na Hungria entre as duas guerras mundiais. Exilou-se em 1948, inconformado com o regime comunista de seu país. Morou na Suíça, na Itália e na França. Em 1979, fixou-se em San Diego, nos Estados Unidos, onde se suicidou com um tiro de revólver dez anos depois, às vésperas do fim do comunismo europeu.
