This new guide presents the entire collections of the Orsay museum, which covers the period of 1848 to 1914 and gathers works relating to all types of art:painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, decorative arts. The book also recalls, in the first part, the history of the place and the building: it initially was the Orleans railway station, built following the architecture of architecture Victor Laloux between 1898 and 1900. It was then disused just before the Second World War. The building finally became a museum in 1989, after complete reparation of the inside. The international fame of the Orsay museum is due in particular to its collection of Impressionist works, which is the most considerable Impressionist collection in the world. This richly illustrated guide reproduces many recent acquisitions which did not appear in its former version.
