Quando terminou o ensino médio, sua ambição era o teatro, e foi para Coastal Carolina University, se formando em Teatro Musical. Depois foi para Radford University e mudou para Música. Então Comunicação. Em seguida, História. Acabou estabelecendo-se em História, mas mudou-se para Blacksburg, casou teve filhos. Depois disso, tornou-se dona de casa para ficar em casa com os filhos. Em 2007, abalada por uma tragédia local, tentou um monte de coisas para se recompor, resultando em se sentar para escrever uma história onde o seu personagem teve que lidar com seus problemas. Escrever lhe ajudou a lidar com todas as coisas que estava sentindo. Acabou por não terminar essa história, porque começou a escrever The Siren.
