Os livros da série Spiderwick são mais infantis do que juvenis. Mas são melhores do que o filme, que é a junção dos cinco volumes de forma resumida. Por exemplo, apenas neste terceiro volume da série os irmãos irão entender o que há de errado na casa e saber do "outro mundo". É uma fantasia leve e divertida.
