Sharpe's Enemy

Richard Sharpe and the Defense of Portugal, Christmas 1812

Sharpe had once been told: 'A Soldier is a man who fights for people who cannot fight for themselves.' ’Behind Sharpe, in the Gateway of God, were women who could not fight for themselves. Sharpe would go back. " The unstoppable Sharpe has been made Major by order of King George, but with promotion comes deadly responsibility. Heading the newly formed Rocket Troop has its own challenges - the rockets are neither safe nor accurate. On top of this Sharpe must rescue a group of vulnerable innocents - women being held for the pleasure of a band of British deserters. Their leader is Sharpe's bitter enemy, the malevolent Sergeant Hawkswill. Sharpe has very serious reasons for wanting Hawkswill to die a painful death, but he must put them aside and concentrate–the lives of thousands of Allied soldiers depend on it.
