The Daughters of Mars

It is hard to be daughters of a dairy farmer in the Macleay Valley and to have dreams beyond the region. Particularly when your elder, more beautiful sister has already managed to escape to a nursing career in Sydney. Sally Durance is left home to build her own nursing career locally and to look after her parents. When her mother battles cervical cancer and eventually succumbs to death, Sally is left feeling hurt at her sister, Naomi's, role in her mother's death, and with a desire to escape. Both sisters find themselves enrolling in the Australian war effort and before they know it they are in Egypt leading a life of adventure and learning an enormous amount about war, love, humanity and themselves.
