The United Artists Story

United Artists is alone among film studios in that it was founded, not by buisness tycoons, but by four of the most famous artists in motion pictures--Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Charles Chaplin, and master director D. W. Griffith. The company was idealistically set up in 1919 to act as a distribution agency to give independent producers freedom of expression away from the restraints of the major studios. United Artists boasts the three biggest money making spinning series in cinema history----James Bond, The Pink Panther, and Rocky movies.
