In 2011 Brazil was represented in the Brazilian Pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale by one of the major figures of Brazilian artistic experimentalism: Artur Barrio (b. Portugal 1945, lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Barrio's work consists of installation pieces that interact with the public using videos, photographs, salt, dry meat and fish, blood, food leftovers, stones, wood, bread and coffee to express his constant concern on pollution and sea environment.
