Robert I. Simon, MD is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Program in Psychiatry and Law at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He is Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Suburban Hospital, Johns Hopkins Medicine, in Bethesda, Maryland and maintains a private practice in Potomac, Maryland.

Dr. Simon is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with Added Qualifications in Forensic Psychiatry and is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Psychiatry. He was President of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the professional organization of forensic psychiatrists, 2005-2006.

Dr. Simon is the author, co-author and editor of more than 30 books, 60 book chapters and 100 articles in the fields of clinical and forensic psychiatry. His most recent publications include the American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Forensic Psychiatry (American Psychiatric Press, Inc., 2004), and Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk: Guidelines for Clinically Based Risk Management (American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., 2004). Dr. Simon is also coeditor of the American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Suicide Assessment and Management, 2006 (and second edition 2012) and the American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Violence Assessment and Management, 2008.
