does a book have to be perfect? can't it just be a realistic painting of the Sylvia Plath haunting fig allegory? or make you sympathize with a man who makes the most egoistic decisions all the time, just because he's charming and stupidilly funny, and soft with his friends, even when he doesn't know what his intentions are?
i'm a sucker for books that take place in a weekend or a few days, and michael chabon kept me company on my weekend, so! a manly story, like Emily said, but in a one of the boys kinda way
