Salty Letters

Ana Gorcieux knows that life is not a fairy tale. Despite having spent part of her childhood among the privileged high society in Rio de Janeiro, she was soon forced to be strong, for herself and her younger sister, after witnessing her own mother’s death.
She learns the hard path to becoming a successful young nurse in a large hospital while being pressured to drop everything and “find a good husband.”
She knows the pain of having a forbidden love, even if it is ardently reciprocated, and the difficulty of trying to give voice to her own desires and discover who she is.
While she tries to balance her career, her aunt’s demands, and her secret relationship, the Second World War echoes in Brazil. The problems that once challenged Ana’s heart strength gain historical and geographical contours.
The creation of an “army” of volunteer nurses - who face the horrors of war in Italy, next to the privates of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force - turns this young woman’s daily life upside down and puts her in the fight alongside brave Brazilians, to overthrow patterns and prejudices to save lives.
Amidst the horrors of the front, Ana still faces an old personal battle, but so present that she is able to decimate a great love story and evoke an imminent danger to her own life.
Is she strong enough to win this war?
