Shakespeare's Planet

After a thousand years in space, the earth vessel lands on a remote planet capable of supporting human life. But only one crew member survives the artificial sleep. Carter Horton is alone, but learns almost immediately that the planet is inhabited by a bizarre creature who calls himself Carnivore, who learned english from an earlier traveler called Shakespeare, and had come to the planet via a broken inner-space tunnel.

Soon they learn they must get away from this strange planet. Mysterious ruins bespeak a catastrophic end to a once-grand civilization and portentous signs intimate some dire, ominous happening will soon befall them. But leaving is no simple affair, Horton’s ship is a thousand years obsolete, incapable of returning them to civilization, and so they must repair the inner-space tunnel to leave Shakespeare’s Planet.
