At a Crossroads

Laenor has come to the decision that he can't do this. He knows it is what his father wants but he can't go through with marrying Rhaenyra. So he comes up with a plan to run away with Joffrey. At least this would give both him and Rhaenyra the chance to find happiness. He knew that she was in good hands with Daemon by her side.

Upon learning that their son is gone, Rhaenys comes up with a new plan. A betrothal between Laena's children and Rhaenyra's. She knew it was futile to try and separate Daemon and Rhaenyra, she had learned as much by merely watching them at the wedding feast. This new plan would be better for them all.
