Shanghaied by a recruiting robot, Bill, a Technical Fertilizer Operator from a farming planet, awakens to find himself in deep space, aboard the Empire warship Christine Keeler, and embarks on a series of entertaining adventures through the galaxy defending the Empire against an enemy race of alien lizards.
