Conversations with Toni Morrison (Literary Conversations Series)

This volume in the Literary Conversation series contains the interviews in chronological order by the date when they were conducted. Newspaper paragraph breaks have been omitted and book titles have been italicized. (...) The interviews are produced in their entirety. Tough this inevitably leads to repetition, there are nuances in the answers to similar questions that readers should note. Thus the evolution from the "Bluest Eye" to "Jazz" is really one of maturation and clarification rather than evolution. Morrison has come to understand the power of the written word, has studied and practiced her craft, as all masters must, and has thus gained the vision of an elder. "I know I can't change the future, but I can change the past. It is the past, not the future, which is infinite. Our past was appropriated. I am one of the people who has to reappropriate it".
