DARCY AND ELIZABETH - A FINAL UNDERSTANDING

Miss Elizabeth Bennet knew things had changed for the worse after her youngest sister had disgraced her family and eloped with the reprobate, George Wickham. After he refused to marry Lydia, only her Uncle Gardiner’s intervention saved the family as he found the couple and forced the marriage. The elopement had occurred just as Elizabeth realized that Fitzwilliam Darcy had gone from being the last man in the world that she would consent to marry to become the only man she had ever loved. Still, she believed that neither he nor any other respectable man would seek an alliance with any of the Bennet daughters. These were depressing times as thoughts of what might have been consumed her during the day and in her sleep. She thought of how she bitterly rejected Darcy’s proposal in Hunsford and knew from what she learnt later that she had badly misjudged him.

Darcy had never stopped loving Elizabeth Bennet but he had his own problems as others had plans that worked to keep him and his friends apart. Though prospects for Elizabeth’s eldest sister Jane and Mr. Bingley improved when he returned to Netherfield, Darcy’s failure to return with him further broke Elizabeth’s heart.

It looked to both of them that they would need something positive to happen for them to meet. Even after they met, too many obstacles needed to be overcome for their relationship to blossom, including overcoming the sinister plans of others who stood in their way. If they were to find a life together, their ability to deal with these problems together would test their mettle and their love.
