Hope in a Ballet Shoe

Born in Sierra Leone, Michaela DePrince loses her parents to war and famine. She is sent to an orphanage where she is beaten and starved. She sees her favourite teacher murdered by rebels. All before she is five years old. But there is hope. Michaela finds a magazine showing a young woman dancing on the cover. One day, she thinks, I want to be this happy.
