In this story of long ago, the readers will meet the March sisters - Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. They live with their mother, called Marmee, in a small house next to the Lawrence mansion. Their father is an army chaplain during the Civil War. Through their dreams, plays, pranks, letters, illnesses, and courtships the reader can find lessons of poverty and of growing up in New England during the Civil War.
