"Really? How much of what you do or say or want is filtered through what you?ve been through?? He moves to me, putting his finger beneath my chin, tilting my scar toward the light. ?And how much of what you?ve been through determines what you do or say, whether or not it?s what you truly want??
Lo Denham is only 19 but has been through a lot. After the crash that killed her parents and gave her the worst ?not just physically? scars ever, she sees herself alone, in need to live with a great-aunt she never met before. At the same time, Bea, her elder sister, leaves and joins ?The Unity Project?, a humanitarian community led by Lev Warren.
When she loses contact with her sister and witnesses someone who knew who she was jump in front of a train, she decides to pursue the rumors against ?The Project? and dive into this world of unknown faith looking for her sister and for herself.
This is the first book I read in a while that took me more than ¼ to settle some thoughts on it. And that was amazing. It?s hard for me to see comparisons with Sadie ?one of my all time favourites?. ?cause we have some similarities between them but both are very unique.
I loved that deeper construction of characters and the scenery description was always on point to not make it boring. Even when you created an image of that role in the narrative, it was switched up in the next paragraph.
The sharp cuts at the end of the POVs, that kept me anxious and wanting for more, used with moderation and the, not so, subtle changes we get into the narrator's voice are great structure pros for me (let alone the AMAZING and OUTSTANDING cover).
If we?re talking about feelings, I will just-
I caught myself trapped and relating to SO MUCH with some characters and their state that I got a little worried. At some point I thought the storyline was getting a little off the road and then Courtney just did THAT magic she has and I just sitted up straight saying ?OK, I was deadly wrong? and kept going as nothing happened.
Nothing is what it seems and Courtney Summers just shows us why.
