"Unwanted" is the first book in the Fredrika Bergman & Alex Recht series, a cop series that had a spectacular start with this book.

The plot is divided into three parts: Part I - False Clues; Part II - Signs of Fury and Part III - Signs of Recovery. The story is narrated in third person and the chapters indicate the days of the week.
The book presents several perspectives. We have a perspective of a man, called "He", who begins his story in childhood and goes through the present day of history. A thorough, brutal man who loves collecting "dolls".

Alex Richt has been a police officer for over 25 years. At 55 years old, he has seen it all in his investigations and is recognized for his talent and hard work. When the case of a missing little girl comes up, he believes it is a simple situation to solve, probably a custody problem, as parents are getting divorced.

His team, made up of Fredrika Bergman and Pider Rydh ends up in conflict during the case. This is due to the fact that Fredrika Bergman is a civilian who has an academic background and an analytical mind but no field experience and difficulty interacting with people and Pider is a rising cop who wants to impress Alex but instead To do this by working hard, she prefers to make her co-worker's life difficult by making derogatory comments and complaining about her presence on the team.

"Alex enjoyed working with people who, like him, had a particular sense of vocation at work. He liked working with those who had the same intuition as him and a well-developed discernment for what was fact and what was absurd."

Frederika feels she is unwelcome, and she also has no confidence that dealing with such dire cases is possible. She is a smart 34-year-old woman who can quickly analyze details that other team members don't see, but matures as the plot develops, learning to deal with some nuances of the new work.

"At one point it seems all right, that we know where we are stepping, but at another the ice gives way and we sink into the most unfathomable darkness."

The case is very well constructed and has scary aspects. Lilian is a little girl who was on the express train from Gothenburg to Stockholm, traveling with her mother Sara, until she mysteriously disappears from the train. No one saw the little girl being taken away and they can't explain how it happened. The case is gaining notoriety as the days go by and there is no news in the case, and investigators find out that Lilian's father is a man with an aggressive streak and that Sara was determined to divorce her husband.

She carefully removed the pieces of Styrofoam. At first, she couldn't understand what she had received. Her eyes searched for some kind of context they could understand. Hair. A lot of curly, medium-length brown hair. her hair, revealing what was underneath. That was when she instantly understood whose hair it was and let out a loud, animalistic bellow. "

"Unwanted" is an impactful plot, with charismatic characters and an impactful case, all necessary elements for a book to become unforgettable.

"The phone slipped from her hand and she closed her eyes in the hope that the evil would disappear. The last thing she saw were the red shoes on the floor beside the suitcase."
