I Am Legend: The society's view
The view of what is right and what is wrong has been changing due to new ways of living and to new societies, exactly how it happened in I Am Legend. The right and wrong depend on where you stand. The human race was the dominants, the rulers and deciders of the society’s view. That is how vampires were put as bad, monsters, and killers, as they do not live in the same way as the human race lived. They did not follow the same rules and commands as humans. Now the world is filled with vampires, and humans are gone. Who is now the ruler of society? And who is the outcast? The context on which Neville lived had changed, there were no more family, friends, neighbors, and everything was gone. Ruth and the vampires had begun to create a new place for their kind, as place where the old race could never image living in. The novella written by Richard Matheson in 1954 says a lot about loneliness and the desire to have something to exist for, as changing is something that humans cannot stand. Throughout the analysis, it was possible to see the different stages of the world and the perspective of both Neville and the vampires. Neville was the only man alive, trying to understand the vampire’s germ and killing every one of them. The conscious vampires were trying to create a new community, while Neville was killing their people. Which side is right? Which side is wrong? The world is in constant change, and how do we perceive this change? It depends on how you look at it.
