The power of habits is underestimated in our lives. As Tynan points out, it is far better to increase a little bit consistently for a long period than a lot once. Habit creating is useful for it enables us to become the type of person we desire. It frees you from the bother and constant use of willpower on deciding what to do. Allow you to be more productive, healthier, with better social life and so on. Tynan organize his thoughts very well (due to habit of writing), and goes through pretty much al you need in order to change for the better.

“New Habits are things that you do, but old habits are things that you are. There’s a difference between waking up early and being an early riser, eating a healthy meal and being a healthy eater, getting some work done and being a productive person. If you want to improve yourself permanently, you must develop more old habits, which is done by creating new habits and sticking with them until they mature into old habits. You know that a habit has crossed that threshold when it becomes something that you subconsciously do, rather than something you must consciously think about doing.”

“I don’t like to break habits, but when I do break them, I make sure that it’s a premeditated and conscious decision. This is the difference between giving up on a habit and losing its benefits, and simply putting it on pause because there are other factors that have higher value at that time.”

“Mistakes will happen, but the most important thing is how you react to them. If successes push you forward, but mistakes also push you forward, you will have a lot more forward progress than if success moves you forward but mistakes pull you back. Use your mistakes to focus. They draw attention to an area that needs more attention, so give it that attention. Challenge yourself to do better next time.”

“a simple moment of reflection and a moment of self-congratulation. It sounds lame, but it is the minimum viable reward, it works, and it can be repeated anywhere.”

“Start small, become consistent, and increase at a manageable pace. That’s how you optimize for the finish line, rather than the starting line.”

“To get the most out of the habit-building process, pay close attention to where you have the most difficulty. Some people may have trouble digging down to their true motivation for wanting to implement a habit, others may have trouble choosing the best habits for them at any given time, and others may have trouble sticking with the habit.”

“Simplicity and freedom from distraction are the core components of the habit builder’s habitat.”
