?This is rape's legacy, the countless deaths women die just trying to keep existing in the world as it is.?

Not that bad
It is a very necessary book, even in this day and age, specially in this day and age, where rape and sexual assault can go unnoticed and believed to be Not That Bad compared to what others have suffered.
The experiences here told also point out that it's a culture, that rape and inappropriate sexual behavior are systemic, is in the media (not always in the right light), in the excuse that boys will be boys, in believing that only women have to deal with this sort of thing.
The essays also deal with the consequences, the burden of the guilt felt by who went through this, the questions that arise about whether their identities, sexuality and choices would've been the same.

"Because we are surrounded with 24/7 access to text, images, and audio that inflate and distort what we think of as love, sex, and gender with the histrionic and pathological, the inexplicable and unattainable, the misogynistic and incomplete. Because first our thoughts reshape, next our emotions, then our behaviors, finally our identities and view of life itself."
