Embora a expectativa para quem chega a este livro vindo de Metro 2033 seja alta, ela é logo minada ao longo dos dois primeiros capítulos, onde o autor numa espécie de febre Martin, introduz alguns pontos de vista que diversificam a narrativa, mas confundem o leitor que vinha aguardando uma continuação e se depara com uma longa introdução de um fato isolado qeu cairia bem como um opcional ou uma espécie de fábula paralela.
