Pre-Algebra Workbook For Sports Fans Grades 6-9

How do you get a student who is passionate about sports to feel some of the same passion for Pre-Algebra? How about by presenting Pre-Algebra topics using explanations and word problems that are based on real world sports examples. These topics become more meaningful to a sports fan when terms such as assist to turnover ratio, batting average, and yards needed to make a first down are used.This workbook is intended to supplement text books used to teach 6th to 9th grade students who take a Pre-Algebra class. The workbook topics include fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, expressions, perimeters, areas, equations with variables, and metric conversions, in twelve chapters. Examples and problems are drawn from a range of sports including basketball, baseball, softball, football, soccer, hockey, tennis, track and field, cycling, and weightlifting.Each chapter starts with an explanation and discussion of the topic followed by a sport based word problem and complete solution to the problem. The next two pages present additional sport based word problems for the student to solve. This is followed by a page which is intended to check the student's understanding of the topic.
