Esse é um livro de heróis, em que não há tantos heróis assim. E isso é maravilhoso!
Mai é uma meta-humana com poder de shape-shifter. Sua família meio que considera fraco, já que é uma mudança mais superficial. Mai tem seu alter-ego Mercy, que ela usa para proteger humanos, algo que os meta não estão interessados em fazer (eu julgaria, mas comsiderando 2020 - e principalmente o Brasil - eu tbm não me esforçaria para salvar humanos não). Enquanto alguém estava matando apenas humanos abusadores, estava tranquilo. Mas quando seu tio se torna a nova vítima do assassino, aí sua família começa a pressionar Mai para que ela vá atrás dele. E aí ela tem que decidir entre se preservar ou ser fiel à sua família.

O livro é pesado, e dark, e com violência. E ELE É MARAVILHOSO! Não é uma história fofa e leve, tem torturadores e abusadores, e uma família que embrulha o estômago. É muito bem escrito, no tamanho ideal. Até as cenas de sexo (que eu não costumo curtir e até pulo) são boas.
Sério, Mai é preta, é lesbica e é maravilhosa.
