It was the worst time of her life. Rowen Roberts had finally admitted to herself that the man she loved would never love her back. She was just fired from her job for violating client confidentiality, and to make matters worse, she’s held up at gunpoint in a convenience store where she only wanted some ice cream to help mask the pain.

The moment the gun is pressed to her forehead, she knows she has a decision to make. Follow the rules and maybe possibly live, or go down swinging where at least she can salvage just a little bit of her dignity.

And when Mr. January himself tells her to do what the gunman says, she’s had enough. Rowen has never really been a girl that does what she’s told. Mr. January won’t have to save her. She can dang well save herself.

Foi uma leitura bem legal, mas acho que esperava mais.

Nesse livro a autora traz de volta vários personagens de outras séries, isso é uma coisa boa porque dá pra rever os queridinhos, mas também meio que torna a leitura chata em alguns momentos, sei lá, não tão dinâmica. Porém, no geral, gostei do livro!

O ponto mais positivo, pra mim, foi a maneira que o relacionamento da Rowen e do Dax se desenvolveu. Foi natural, sem drama; realmente dois adultos se envolvendo pouco a pouco um com o outro e deixando as coisas rolarem.

O desfecho da história foi legal (todo o drama que acontece, o "ápice" da história). Achei que a Lani acertou a mão nesse (coisa que dificilmente acho nos livros dela) e soube desenvolver bem o que aconteceu.

Mas acho que esperava mais do livro, como começo de uma nova série e tudo mais. Não consegui me conectar tanto assim com os personagens e ficou faltando aquele "quê" a mais. Talvez porque tenha lido em inglês... sempre prefiro português, não adianta. Mas vou tentar ler o próximo e ver no que dá.

PS.: a sinopse não tem praticamente n-a-d-a a ver com o livro. Sério. Faz parecer que a história vai ser sobre isso e na verdade não é. Estranho...
