****In April 2010, the novel was named a 2010 Hugo Award nominee in the Best Novel category. In May 2010, the novel won the Nebula Award for Best Novel.**** It's a strange new world - calorie companies have become the most powerful global forces, overtaking oil companies and many governments. Bangkok remains an exciting and devilish city, and it's on this city's streets that Anderson Lake, who shamelessly works for one of the biggest calorie companies, meets Emiko, an android designed as a sex toy. The picture of the future that Paolo Bacigalupi paints in this additive yet disturbing follow-up to THE CALORIE MAN and THE YELLOW CARD MAN hits frighteningly close to home, resonating with contemporary environmental crises and medical issues. Selected by Publishers Weekly as one of the 100 Best Books of 2009
