Against stupidity the very Gods fight in vain

"stultorum infinitus est numerus" ou "o número dos tolos é infinito" - expressão que, dizem, estaria em Eclesiastes (1:15) - pode procurar; eu procurei e não achei - é usada para descrever a abundância de pessoas que agem de forma tola ou insensata. Haja licença poética nisso, posto que se o número de indivíduos for finito, logo o número de tolos também será, e ainda se supõe, sem provas, que alguns não sejam(os) estúpidos. O ilustre Carlo M. Cipolla, italiano, nos brindou (em 1976, num texto em Inglês) com as Cinco Leis da Estupidez Humana. Se ele não escreveu em italiano, que traduza quem puder! 1st «Always and inevitably everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation». 2nd «The probability that a certain person be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person». 3rd «A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses». 4th «Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. ln particular non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places and under any circumstances to deal and/or associate with stupid people infallibly turns out to be a costly mistake». 5th «A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person». The corollary of the Law is that «A stupid person is more dangerous than a bandit». Within a democratic system, general elections are a most effective instrument to insure the steady maintenance of fraction of stupids among the powerful. Daí eu lembro de políticos e penso que o autor não pôde conceber o estrago de um bandido e estúpido, raiz e cultivado. Por isso é que (nós) somos privilegiados em viver nesta arena de luta incessante. A hiperinflação nos preparou como gestores e banqueiros; a hipercorrupção será que nos prepara para o quê?
