At fifty-seven, George is settling down to a comfortable retirement, building a shed in his garden, reading historical novels, listening to a bit of light jazz. Then Katie, his unpredictable daughter, announces that she is getting remarried, to Ray. Her family is not please - as her brother Jamie observes, Ray has 'strangler's hands'. Katie can't decide if she loves Ray, or loves the way he cares for her son Jacob, and her mother Jean is a bit put out by the way the wedding planning gets in the way of her affair with one of her husband's former colleagues. And the tidy and pleasant life Jamie has created crumbles when he fails to invite his lover, Tony, to the dreaded nuptials.
Unnoticed in the uproar, george discovers a sinister lesion on his hip, and quietly begins to lose his mind.

Não fosse o fato da amiga que me emprestou este livro ter previamente me alertado de que ele não era tão bom quanto a obra anterior de Mark Haddon, minha decepção teria sido maior.
“A Spot of Bother” não é ruim mas, na minha opinião, não chega aos pés de “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time “ (primeira obra do autor).
O livro, de fácil leitura, tem alguns momentos divertidos, outros mais sérios, outros tragicômicos, mas não tem a criatividade do romance anterior. Tanto que, foi somente após mais de dois terços do livro que a leitura começou a fluir melhor.
Caso você se interesse em ler algo de Mark haddon, eu sugiro “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” que, apesar de voltado para o público infanto-juvenil, é bem mais interessante .
Detalhe: os dois livros possuem edição em português - “O Estranho Caso do Cachorro Morto” e “Uma Coisa de Nada” (primeiro e segundo livro, respectivamente).
