It's a heartbreaking tale
And there are a couple of lessons that are taught here. It's a good tale about a Swallow that wanted a life partner that would follow and travel around the world as any other swallow would and a golden statue of "The Happy Prince" that was actually sad by watching people from the city pass through tough times. I wished the end to be different, it would make me "happier" if the end was as magical as a talk between birds and statues, but the way the story was developed makes sense and fits well its purpose. The last part of the tale tries to convince by giving a bit of hope but I don't feel that worked with me. It's just... I'm not a fan of dramas at this level of sadness. I could try to compare it with "The Little Prince"(by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) but they are some way different sorts of books and writings, it wouldn't be fair.
