The book deals with the formation of illegal Hebrew army Irgoun, which fought against the Anglo-Arab coalition that wanted to keep the territory of Israel under a facade of an Arab state in a complete and total dependence in London.

Menachem Begin (Brest-Litovsk, 16 de agosto de 1913 — Jerusalém, 9 de março de 1992) tornou-se o sexto primeiro-ministro de Israel em Maio de 1977. Ele negociou os Acordos de Camp David com o presidente do Egipto Muhammad Anwar al-Sadat, pelo qual ambos receberam o Prémio Nobel da Paz em 1978.
