Grade 5-7 The stuff of which legends are made: John Lennon is displayed here in a model somewhat larger-than-life, a humbly-born skeptic whose music and style caught everyone's attention and remains an inspiration to us all (the rest of the Beatles fade far into the background). Martin relies on published (uncited) books and interviews, spending less time behind the scenes (no hint of any kind of drug use appears here) than on descriptions of concerts, tours, Beatlemania and Lennon's life with Yoko in its more public stages. A franker and more detailed account of his life and music can be found in Corbin's John Lennon (Watts, 1982). Nonetheless, this is worth buying for its sketchy but thoughtful look at John's son Julian, which takes up about a quarter of the book. Martin traces Julian Lennon's career through the July 1985 Live Aid concert. John Peters, New York Public Library Copyright 1986 Reed Business Information, Inc.
