Nesse livro vamos conhecer as mulheres da família Waverley – todas nascem com um legado especial e inusitado. Algumas gostam disso, outras fazem de tudo para fugir desse destino. Além disso, a família Waverley é conhecida por seu jardim cheio de ervas e flores que possuem os mais variados poderes. E, claro, por uma macieira mais do que especial.

Claire é uma das Waverley que tem orgulho da sua herança, já a irmã, Sydney, sempre fugiu dos rótulos que as Waverley possuem, tanto que saiu de casa logo que terminou o colegial e foi em busca de uma nova vida onde ninguém conhecesse o legado da família.

As duas seguiram em frente com suas vidas mesmo com a separação. Claire leva em frente o legado da família, mas prefere evitar relações mais intimas. Já Sydney tem vivido de uma maneira completamente diferente da qual sonhou.

Sydney surpreende Claire e reaparece de repente trazendo junto consigo uma filha. Tudo parece estranho. E não só o fato de Sydney ter voltado para o lugar que sempre tentou evitar, mas principalmente porque parece estar fugindo de alguma coisa.

Dessa vez a Sarah Addison Allen trabalhou com protagonistas enfrentando problemas bem mais fortes do que os outros livros. E acho que não precisa dizer que ela soube fazer isso muito bem.

A história é incrível. Mais uma vez a autora consegue prender a atenção do leitor com o seu ar mágico, que dessa vez envolve a família Waverley, e com trama cheia de mistério e reviravoltas.

Uma personagem que incrementou ainda mais o livro foi sem dúvida a filhinha da Sydney, a Bay. O jardim da família também é outro destaque, não ficou só de figuração. Eu mesma quis dar uma voltinha por lá.
