Sir William Gerald Golding
William Golding é um escritor britânico, ganhador do Prêmio Nobel de Literatura de 1983. Golding é autor de romances, poemas e peças de teatro. Publicou seu primeiro romance, <i>O Senhor das Moscas</i> (Lord of the Flies) em 1954, alcançando grande sucesso em diversos países. Outros romances de sua autoria foram <i>Os Herdeiros</i> (The Inheritors, 1955) e <i>Ritos de Passagem</i> (Rites of Passage, 1980). Sua obra aborda principalmente temas de sobrevivência em situações adversas, marcadas por isolamento e fragmentação da sociedade. Golding foi muito prestigiado ainda em vida, recebendo, além do Prêmio Nobel, o Booker Prize de 1980 e sendo ordenado <i>cavaleiro</i> pela Rainha Elizabeth II em 1988. Morreu em 1993.
